What Wine Goes With Steak?

Wine with Steak

Steaks water the mouth just thinking about them. So what wine goes with steak? There is nary a red wine that is not elevated by the rich succulent savoriness of a great steak. The key here is savory! Steak is protein at its height. And the best compliment, perhaps even neutralizers, of that savory protein are hearty, full, rich, “stick to the roof of your mouth and tongue” tanins. These are the kind of tanins that were created to balance an awesome steak.

Wine With Steak: RED

Strong red wines are particularly delicious with steak, depending on the preparation, spices, and your mood. Here are some recommendations, but I would suggest mixing it up. While these may serve, the variables beg for exploration. There is a big world of hearty red wines out there and a varied selection of cuts and preparations of beef. So be adventurous. Steak is a comfort food that will give you the security to venture out into the wide untraversed world of big red wines.

For instance, if you can get your butcher to order you a cut comparable to Bisteca alla Florentine and you prepare it accordingly, you will be transported with a Chianti Classico or Super Tuscan. But if you prepare a lean and simple Filet Mignon, seared with a crust of dried porcini mushrooms, you will be surprised by how well a balanced New World Pinot Noir can excite the dish
